Check out Limbo for a location social networking when you have a chance. I think it’s way more user-friendly and practical for finding out what you’re friends are up to than Whrrl or Loopt. Plus it has this group text messaging thing where you can send multiple friends a text message and they can respond to the whole group. It doesn’t do Twitter updates though unfortunately.

gonna wait and see about this 3G iphone. of the rumors i’ve heard there isn’t a killer new feature that would necessitate trying to figure out how to convince the wife to adopt my current iphone so that i could get the new 3G iphone.

I think you’d end up having scheduled movies as well. But it would probably work similarly either way to Joost - it’s on demand but the chat is going all the time. Either way I don’t think it’s a serious distraction from movie-centric chat.

The Joost of the sky is an interesting thought but if the flight you are on offers full On-Demand movies (as the trend appears to be) there would have to be a way for those interested in chatting during the movie to start it at the same time.
